LaToya Murphy

LaToya Murphy is a dynamic minister, educator, psalmist, and breast cancer survivor whose life and voice testify to the healing power of God. Born and raised in Franklin, VA, she is the youngest of four siblings and a proud daughter of Pastor Melvin and Lady Georgia Murphy. LaToya’s love for gospel music began at the age of six in her father’s church, and she’s been singing ever since.

A licensed minister since 2012—the same year she was diagnosed with breast cancer—LaToya continued to preach, praise, and persevere, trusting God as her Healer. She has now been cancer-free for 13 years and serves faithfully as the Minister of Worship at Zion Baptist Church, Newport News, under the leadership of Dr. Tremayne M. Johnson.

LaToya has spent over 20 years in public education, currently serving as a Title I Liaison, which she considers an extension of her ministry. She holds two Bachelor’s degrees from Virginia State University, is a 27-year member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and has held licensure in mental health and human services (QMHP, QIDP, QMPP, CSS)

Known across the Hampton Roads region and beyond for her powerful voice and heartfelt worship, LaToya has sung with legendary gospel artists including Dorothy Norwood, Twinkie Clark, Donnie McClurkin, Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin, LeAndria Johnson, and more. She has recorded background vocals, appeared on Bobby Jones Gospel, and was a finalist in Sunday Best Season 7 auditions.
